University Alums

William J. Thomas Jr. (1968, BS Agriculture), former student body president, is an attorney and a cattle rancher. His area of expertise is state and federal environmental laws as they apply to agriculture.

Karen SeccombeKaren Seccombe Meenan, PhD, (1979, BS Sociology) is a professor at Portland State University, School of Community Health. She has published three books and 35 articles. She has an $850,000 national grant to investigate health insurance needs of families leaving welfare for work.

John A. DiMichele (1976, BS Business Administration) is the president and CEO of Community Business Bank in West Sacramento. As the founding president of Yolo Community Bank, he was responsible for raising $4.7 million in an initial stock offering.

Congressman Donald E. Young (1959, BA Social Science; 1959, teaching credential), the third-ranking Republican member of the House of Representatives, from Alaska, is a member of the Select Committee on Homeland Security, vice chairman of the Resources Committee, and chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

Farhang (Frank) Zamani (1994, BS Computer Science) is the founder, president, and CEO of Caspio, Inc., a leader in Web database solutions. Previously, Zamani cofounded Autoweb.com, an online auto-buying company.

Jonny LancasterJohnny Lancaster (1994, BA English) is a voice-over artist and actor who has been heard in commercials for such companies as Pepsi, Volkswagen, and Hershey’s and in promos for TV on MTV and Nickelodeon. He received his MFA from the Goodman School of Drama, DePaul University.

James E. Millerd, PhD, (1987, BS Electrical/Electronic Engineering and Physics) is the chief technology officer for 4D Technology Corporation, which he launched in 2000. 4D develops state-of-the-art optical instrumentation. Author of more than 30 publications and holder of four U.S. patents, Millerd was recognized by NASA for his development of a laser Doppler vibrometer.


From the halls of Congress to corporate boardrooms, from exploring outer space to taking on Hollywood, Chico alums have made outstanding contributions in their fields.
