Athletics in Top 10 for Third Straight Year
For the third straight year, the Wildcats finished in the top 10 in the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics Director’s Cup standings for 2005–2006. The Director’s Cup recognizes the top programs in National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II.
Baseball in National Title Game
For the fourth time in 10 seasons, the CSU, Chico baseball team played in the national championship game. They finished the season ranked second in the nation. En route to the national championship game, the Wildcats earned a California Collegiate Athletic Association title and won their seventh Western Regional title.
Cross Country Wins the West Again
In the best season in the program’s history, the men’s and women’s cross country teams captured the Western Regional titles—the men for the fourth straight time, the women for the third. The men put together a third-place finish at the national championships. The women tied their best finish ever with fourth place at the national championships.

Basketball Team to National Semifinals
The women’s basketball team won the Western Regional championship and advanced to the national semifinals. Their 28–4 mark was the best in school history. Amber Simmons, right, became the first Chico State player to earn the Basketball Coaches Association All-America honors.
