EOP at Chico State
There are 1,200 Economic Opportunity Program students on campus. Many of the 220 first-year students participated in the EOP Summer Bridge Program in July 2006. Russell Lobban, an EOP staff member, leads one of the activities. Twenty-eight faculty and staff volunteered to be mentors. Some of the staff mentors—Tray Robinson, Dianna Parra-Villasenor, and Cecilia Santillan-Robles—were previous CSU, Chico EOP students and now are professionals on campus.
Up ’til Dawn Surpasses Quarter-Million Mark for St. Jude’s
More than 850 students sent more than 18,000 letters to friends and family requesting donations for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in an Up ’til Dawn national collegiate fund-raiser in November 2005. With a final tally of $103,000, CSU, Chico earned a second-place finish in the nation. The year’s total put the CSU, Chico group over the $300,000 mark for total contributions during the five years of the project.
Latina Sorority Honored by Congress
The U.S. House of Representatives honored the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Lambda Theta Nu Sorority with a resolution. Lambda Theta Nu was the first intercollegiate Greek-letter sorority established for Latina college women on the West Coast. Eighteen Latina women founded it at CSU, Chico in 1986.
