Distance Education
CSU, Chico is a leader in delivering degree-completion programs online. In a spring 2006 survey, 98 percent of Chico Distance & Online Education students were satisfied or very satisfied with the overall program.
CSU, Chico Hosts Botany Conference
In July Chico Continuing Education hosted Botany 2006, the 100th anniversary of the Botanical Society of America and a joint academic conference held on the Chico campus. More than 1,300 scholars and students from around the country participated.
Green Campus Initiatives at CSU, Chico
CSU, Chico is an environmental leader within the CSU system. Three programs received best-practices commendations at UC Santa Barbara’s June 2006 sustainability conference: The Diversion Excursion Program, which diverts waste from landfills when students move out of dorms; the new Associated Students sustainability program funded by a fee increase sponsored by student leaders; and the 98 percent reuse and waste diversion in the demolition of a building to make way for the new Student Activities Center.
Here is a sample of some of the programs and practices in the area of sustainability:
- The first LEED gold certified building in the CSU.
- A student-sponsored conference on sustainability in 2005; cosponsored with the University in 2006.
- One of the first green residence halls.
- The Jack Rawlins’ Professor of Environmental Literacy Chair, currently held by Jim Pushnik.
- The A.S. Environmental Affairs Council and Action and Resource Center.
