Marketing Students Continue Winning Tradition
The American Marketing Association competition team participated with students from 140 schools from the United States and Canada in the spring 2008 competition in New Orleans. The Chico chapter’s plan book earned them Excellence in Chapter Planning and Best Professional Development. Their trade-show book earned them Best Display of Chapter Activities honors.
In March 2008, or the second time in two years, the student delegation from CSU, Chico’s Model United Nations course was named the Outstanding Delegation at the national conference in New York. The delegation, representing Saudi Arabia, also made a stunning showing at the American West Model United Nations Conference in fall 2007, garnering both the Distinguished and Outstanding Delegation awards.
Manufacturing Students Win Top Award at WESTEC 2008
Manufacturing Technology Program students won Grand Prize at the prestigious WESTEC (Western Tool Exposition and Conference) Manufacturing Challenge for the fourth year in a row. Students in the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) designed and manufactured an off-road vehicle chassis and suspension system for the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Baja team. This is CSU, Chico’s fifth grand prize win at the WESTEC competition in the last six years.
Ag Students Top Marketers
Agriculture Marketing Planning students’ designing, marketing, and sales skills got them top spots at the Western Collegiate Food Marketing Competition at Cal Poly, Pomona in April 2008. Professor Todd Lone’s students placed first in the international division and second in the domestic division of the Food Marketing Competition.
Students Demonstrate Mathletic Ability
Mathematics students Corey Zaro, Lindsay Cole, Chelsea Lindsay, Jonathan Roy, Chris Hasek, and Samantha Wilson won first place in the 40th Annual Statewide Mathletics Competition in April 2008. Zaro took second place and Cole received an honorable mention in the individual calculus competition. Professors LaDawn Haws and Chris Pavone advised the group.
Construction Management Team Places Nationally
The Marine Construction team won third place at the Annual Associated Schools of Construction national championship competition in spring 2008. The Design/Build team won third place in their regional championship division. Thirty-four universities representing over 900 students competed. Professors Denny Gier and Douglas Chelson advised the respective winning teams.
