Hispanic Literature Group Wins Award
La Asociación de Teatro y Poesía received the campus’s Enhancement of Multicultural Understanding Award for 2010. The group promotes Hispanic literature through theatre and poetry. Members performed El Patroncito, a play about the life of a farm worker, for Cesar Chavez Day. Advisor Antonio Arreguín-Bermúdez is on the left.
$1 Million Raised for St. Jude Hospital
CSU, Chico’s Up ’til Dawn project reached the $1 million mark on behalf of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Chico is a four-time champion in raising money for cancer research. Over the past 10 years, Chico has set records for dollars raised in one year and number of letters sent to donors. In 2009, the program was honored for outstanding college fundraising event and its overall program.
Student Wins National Award for Hazing Awareness Week
Kappa Sigma member Steven Loya, vice president of conduct for the InterFraternity Council, received the Hank Nuwer Anti-Hazing Hero Award from Hazingprevention.org for engaging the Greek community in its first Hazing Awareness Week in spring 2010.
