Student Team Successes

 

Model United Nations Delegation Wins Awards

In March 2010, 27 Model United Nations (MUN) students, with nine co-team members from the Japanese MUN program, participated in the National MUN Conference in New York. The delegation brought home an Outstanding Position Paper award and two Distinguished Delegation awards.

In addition to the team awards, Caitlin Albritton and Frank Mayfield, representing Algeria in the General Assembly Second Committee of 400 students, received top recognition from their peers for their work in their individual committee.

Construction Management Champions

In February, Department of Construction Management students took first place in building information modeling (BIM) in the Associated Schools of Construction 2010 National Competition. BIM is the latest technological approach to construction planning and management.

Chico’s team of six students—Ryan Bruggeman, Sean Kaford, Tim Kehoe, Imke Lewis, Dustin Rothwell (captain), and David Sproule—beat out nine other teams during the competition held in Sparks, Nev.

Gold for Food Marketing Team

The College of Agriculture’s Food Marketing Team competed at the Western Collegiate Food Marketing Competition in Fresno, Calif., in March 2010. The team placed first in the domestic division of the competition and second in the international. The international team also received second place through student votes for the most innovative marketing idea, and second place for the best PowerPoint presentation.

The domestic team, consisting of Haley Hunt, Jillian Kehoe, and Elle Karno-Palcic, won for their idea for marketing organic and locally produced premium quality chevon (goat meat) in Northern California. The international team, consisting of Kirby Swickard, Sara Spafford, and Tiffany Gomes, placed second in their division with their idea for marketing gourmet fruit butter in the United Kingdom.

Students Place at Regional Sales Competition

Business students who are members of the Professional Sales Program placed second as a team in the Western States Collegiate Sales Competition hosted by CSU, Chico in April 2010. The individual winners from CSU, Chico were Gillian Leeds and Brittany Fortune.

 

SIFE Team Wins Regional Competition

The Students in Free Enterprise were named regional champions in the SIFE USA Regional Competition in April 2010. The team won first place in the Environmental Sustainability Individual Competition.
