Ice Cream Plan a Hit
The College of Agriculture’s domestic and international food marketing teams placed first and second, respectively, at the Western Collegiate Food Marketing Competition in March 2012. In addition to winning first place for their Bacchanalia Liqueur-infused ice cream marketing plan, the domestic team, consisting of Codi Titus, Bliss Bidwell, and Jessica Neugebauer, was named “most likely to succeed.”
Students Demonstrate Sales Skills
Students in the Professional Sales Program at CSU, Chico took first place in the Western States Collegiate Sales Competition in spring 2012. In addition to collectively winning the competition, three Chico students also garnered the top three individual prizes, worth more than $3,000 in prizes. Casey Donoho and Tim Heinze, Department of Finance and Marketing, coached the team of Kevin Beaumonte, Brittany Brennecke, Ciara Bronson, Christopher Dunphy, Sierra Fox, Keith Morse, and Joseph Schwarz.
Future Diplomats Excel
Twenty-one political science students participating in the Model United Nations (MUN) course won multiple top awards at the National Model United Nations Conference in New York in April 2012. For the fifth time in six years, the Chico delegation was named one of 34 outstanding delegations out of more than 400 by the staff of the National MUN. The delegation, representing the State of Qatar, also won outstanding position papers on four of 10 committees in which they competed.
Student Film Accepted into Barcelona Sports Film Festival
The documentary film El Clásico: More Than a Game, produced entirely by nine CSU, Chico students, was accepted into the 2012 Barcelona Sports Film Festival in the Barcelona Olympics Stadium. The film was shot on location in Barcelona and Madrid, Spain, under the direction of alums Cathy Growdon and Kelly Candaele, an award-winning documentary filmmaker.

Engineers Win Manufacturing Challenge
Students from the Sustainable Manufacturing Program won the Grand Prize for the 13th time at the prestigious 2012 WESTEC (Western Tool Exposition and Conference) Manufacturing Challenge in March. The Society of Manufacturing Engineers hosted the challenge. The students won by creating a manufacturing system for producing a sustainable composite skateboard deck with trucks and axles. Natural plant-based flax-fiber was used to replace traditional petroleum-based material.
