Staff Council Sponsors Relay For Life Team
The Staff Council has voted to become an official sponsor of the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life, June 11 and 12 at the University Stadium. The public is invited.
Individual council members donated the team registration fees and numerous members have joined the university relay teams. The Academic Senate also passed a resolution in support of Relay For Life.
University faculty and staff are forming the University Wildcat Relay teams with support and help from individual students and student groups. The teams hope to collect names of faculty, staff, and students who have had cancer and create luminaria (lanterns lit by candles) for each one at the event.
Relay For Life is a 24-hour fundraiser where team members' goals are to raise a minimum $100 each. The team members take turns walking the track for 24 hours. Teams set up campsites, decorate, provide a cancer education message, barbecue, play games and enter contests. Team member participation can vary from spending all 24 hours at the relay, to attending only a portion.
To donate to the university relay teams, send contributions to Kathy Favor, zip 275. Send names of those who have had cancer to Billie Kanter-Monfort at zip 430, or see www.acsevents.org/relay/ca/chico.
