Student Affairs Has a New Vice President

Drew Calandrella, vice president for student affairs at Rowan University in New Jersey, has accepted the position of vice president for student affairs.

Calandrella will begin his new post at CSU, Chico Aug. 1. He replaces Jim Moon, who has been vice president for student affairs, and before that interim VP, since 2003.

Calandrella has been vice president at Rowan since 2000. His accomplishments include developing a freshman-year experience program, implementing a campus master plan for dining services, restructuring the Greek Life program, and enhancing campuswide enrollment management and retention services.

Prior to his service at Rowan, Calandrella was vice president for enrollment and student academic services for Sonoma State University from 1998 to 2000. He also held prior administrative posts at Sonoma from 1986 to 1998, including associate vice president for student academic services; acting director of computing, media, and telecommunications service; director of financial aid; associate dean of student affairs; and director of the Career Development Center.

Calandrella began his professional career as a counselor and psychology instructor, then moved into career development and services at Temple University and North Adams State College. He has a BA in psychology and MEd in student personnel and guidance from the College of New Jersey (formerly Trenton State College). He completed doctoral coursework at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1989.
