Briefly NotedBook in Common film seriesNever Let Me Go, by Kazuo Ishiguro, has been chosen as the book in common for the 2006–2007 academic year. Planned events include a film festival featuring movies with thematic elements from the book. On Sept. 7, the first movie of the series, The Island, will be shown at 9 p.m. on the Lassen Lawn. Fair Connects Volunteers with Those in NeedThe Office of Faculty and Staff Assistance & Work/Life Program will hold their second annual Making a Difference in the Community Volunteer Fair in the Free Speech Area on Sept. 13 from noon to 1:30 p.m. Various agencies that need volunteers will be present to provide information to those interested in volunteering. The fair gives students, faculty, staff, and members of the community the resources to turn the desire to volunteer into action. Americans in ParisA tour designed for the College of Humanities and Fine Arts will take
students, alums, staff, faculty, and members of the community to France
March 16–23. The faculty in residence will be English professor
Tracy Butts, whose specialty is American, African American, and multicultural
literature. A tax-deductible portion of the $2,200 tour fee will support
student scholarships and HFA programs. Space is limited. To purchase
