The New York Times is Free on Campus

The New York Times Knowledge Network and the Provost’s Office will be providing the New York Times to CSU, Chico students free of charge for six weeks starting Oct. 2. The papers will be available at Bell Memorial Union, Meriam Library, Holt Hall, Butte Hall, Plumas Hall, Ayres Hall, Modoc Hall, Tehama Hall, Physical Sciences Building, and Glenn Hall..

On Sept. 19, Elaine Leeder, PhD, dean of Social Sciences at Sonoma State University, offered a workshop to interested faculty on how to incorporate the Times into their classroom discussions.

Making the Times available to students is part of the American Democracy Project, which is designed to increase civic engagement and to encourage students to become more active in getting lawmakers to address their needs. Leeder said that the American Democracy Project’s efforts to engage students in voter registration at San Francisco State was so successful that the university became its own precinct.
