Redemption Center: Vincent Craig Wright’s short fiction

Vincent Craig Wright, professor at Southern Oregon University, will read from his debut collection of stories at the Writer’s Voice on October 5 at 7:30 pm in PAC 135. Bear Star Press, which has previously published only poetry, published Redemption Center as its first volume in what it hopes will be a line of short-fiction collections.

Beth Spencer, editor, said that Redemption Center delivers a funny, troubling, and sometimes hallucinatory look at modern American life, love, faith (or lack of it), and work (ditto). Born in Louisiana, Wright also lived in Texas, Pennsylvania, and the Carolinas before taking a job teaching creative writing at SOU. While at the University of South Carolina, he studied with James Dickey and William Price Fox and won both a South Carolina Academy of Authors Fiction Prize and an Elliott Teaching Award. He is also a singer/songwriter and musician. “His music background has no doubt affected the way he attends to rhythms of speech and narrative,” said Spencer.
