Up FrontReaccreditation for Counseling CenterCSU, Chico’s Center for Psychological Counseling, Wellness, and Testing received word this month it had been reaccredited by the International Association of Counseling Services, Inc. (IACS), a Virginia-based organization of U.S., Canadian, and Australian counseling agencies. In a letter confirming reaccreditation, IACS wrote, “In its recent review of your Center, the Board (of Accreditation) was very complimentary of your program.” Only about 10 percent of colleges and universities nationally are fully accredited. CSU, Chico’s counseling center has been fully accredited since 1985. The counseling center offers individual and group counseling to enrolled students as well as clinical consultation and outreach programs to members of the campus community. It is also a training site for counseling interns. Engineering Student Wins Essay CompetitionAn engineering student has won $1,000 and been named a finalist in a national writing competition held by the Chicago-based Quixote Corporation, a leading manufacturer of transportation safety products. Shahna Thomas, who is from Paradise, wrote an essay on highway roundabouts last spring as part of an assignment in her transportation engineering class. Her essay was one of seven national finalists.
Thomas graduated in May 2006 in civil engineering from CSU, Chico. She
is currently working on a master’s in civil engineering at CSU,
Sacramento and is employed as a construction engineer on the Highway
70/149/99 project between Chico and Oroville in Butte County.
