Up FrontCollege of Business One of “Best Business Schools”The College of Business is among the best business schools in the country, according to The Princeton Review, a New York-based education services company that included CSU, Chico in the just-published 2008 edition of “Best 290 Business Schools.” To compile the list, Princeton Review surveys students on college campuses about themselves and their career plans, as well as their schools’ academics, student body, and campus life. Schools are not ranked within the list of 290. “Being named to Princeton Review’s Best 290 B-Schools list is gratifying and provides a wonderful illustration of the incredible momentum that we are currently experiencing,” said Willie Hopkins, dean of COB. ”This most recent tribute verifies that our students are pleased with the education they are receiving.” New Building Information Model LabThe construction management department and Turner Construction Company’s Sacramento Regional Office opened the Turner Building Information Modeling (BIM) Laboratory in O’Connell 127A on Oct. 12. BIM, the development and use of computer software 3-dimensional (3D) models to simulate the construction and operation of a facility, is being applied to more and more projects. The BIM lab is a collaboration of construction management and its students with the Turner Construction Company. “It is the first time we know of that a construction management program has worked at such a highly integrated level with a construction company using BIM technology on real building projects,” said Willem Kymmell, Construction Management.
Turner began collaborating with the CSU, Chico construction management department in May 2006 as the students were creating a 3-D model of the new Student Services Building that Turner is now building on campus.
