Briefly NotedNew Center for Ecosystem ResearchJennifer Rotnem, Institute for Sustainable Development, is the director of the Center for Ecosystem Research in the College of Natural Sciences, which opened this fall. The center will facilitate collaborative research, primarily on the ecosystems of Northern California in response to the region’s societal and environmental needs. Two laboratories and a collection of analytical and field research equipment currently administered by the college are dedicated to the center. Professor Emeritus Wins Newspaper Writing AwardRichard Ek, professor emeritus, Journalism, won first place in the business and financial writing category for large weekly newspapers from the California Newspapers Publishers Association. This is the second time Ek has won a CNPA award; the first was for investigative reporting in 1996. Ek taught at CSU, Chico from 1967 until 1991 and has continued writing in his retirement from the University. Professor Inducted into Athletic Hall of FameBev Marcum, Biological Sciences, was inducted into the Bridgewater College Athletic Hall of Fame in Oct. 3 as part of the college’s Homecoming activities. Marcum, who graduated from Bridgewater in 1968, was one of five 2008 inductees. She played basketball, field hockey, and tennis at the college, lettering in all three sports. She was selected to the Southeast Regional Field Hockey Team as a junior and senior, and twice served as president of the Women’s Athletic Association.
