Staff Safety Award Goes to Caroline Coykendall
Caroline Coykendall, who works in gardening services for University and Housing Services, has received the Staff Safety Award. Each year Environmental Health and Safety sponsors this award, which goes to someone who goes beyond her or his duties to make the University a safer place. On June 10, 2008, Coykendall noticed smoke coming from along the sidewalk gutter opposite Konkow Hall. She rushed to the grounds shop to get buckets, and she and a colleague extinguished the flames that had ignited in a pile of debris. There were strong winds that afternoon, and the small fired could have possibly turned into a dangerous situation, as Konkow was only 20 feet away. Coykendall was honored on April 29 with a cake and a small ceremony, where her supervisors and co-workers honored her. |
