In The News"In the News" will periodically report on faculty and staff who are featured or quoted by the media, with particular attention to media outside Chico. Center for Economic Development director Dan Ripke was the featured guest on KIXE Channel 9's "Job Show" Jan. 21 and subsequent repeat airings. Mechanical engineering and manufacturing lecturer Dirk Vanderloop appeared on the program Nov. 19. Adjunct Professor Bill Wattenburg,1999 distinguished alumni award winner, was featured in a November15 New York Times article about his computer science solution to Y2K problems. Assistant to the Provost Marilyn Winzenz was quoted in a November 18 Sacramento Bee story about freshman remediation. Physical education and exercise science assistant professor Cathrine Himberg was quoted in a November 22 article in the San Francisco Chronicle about new trends in P. E. classes. Music assistant professor Paul Friedlander was quoted in an Associated Press article about the 30-year anniversary of the Altamont rock festival. The article ran in the December 6 Sacramento Bee and a number of other newspapers. Friedlander is the author of Rock and Roll: A Social History. Psychology professor Ed Abramson was featured in a Dec. 8 Sacramento Bee article about marriage and dieting. Abramson is the author of To Have and To Hold: How To Take Off The Weight When Marriage Puts On The Pounds.
