A Brush with Our Time

The Humanities Center Gallery at California State University, Chico will be exhibiting A Brush with Our Time by Kazuaki Tanahashi. The show includes multi-color Zen circles titled Miracles of Each Moment, all of which are acrylic and created in one stroke.

Tanahashi is a painter, calligrapher, writer, and peace and environmental worker, born in Japan in 1933 and active in the U.S. since 1977. He has had solo exhibitions of his brushwork all over the world. His publications include Brush Mind, Penetrating Laughter: Hakuin's Zen and Art, and Moon in a Dewdrop: Writings of Zen Master Dogen. He is coordinator of the Ten Millennium Future Project based in Berkeley and a Fellow of the World Academy of Art and Science.

A Brush with Our Time runs March 1-3, 2000, in the Humanities Center Gallery in Trinity Hall 100 on the CSU, Chico campus. The gallery is open M-F, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. A reception will be held on March 2 from 5 to 6 p.m. Immediately following, from 6 to 8 p.m., Tanahashi will give a lecture and performance titled "In Search of Creative Wholeness," which will include audience participation.
