CSU, Chico Student Research Competition
The Fourteenth Annual CSU, Chico Student Research Competition was held on Thursday, February 17. Robert M. Jackson, dean of the School of Graduate, International, and Sponsored Programs, hosted the event. Jurists included Byron Jackson, vice provost for Academic Affairs and undergraduate dean; A. Charles Crabb, dean of the College of Agriculture; Jeffrey R. Bell, Biological Sciences; and Kate Transchel, History.
Students were given ten minutes to present an oral summary of their research. The categories of Biological and Agricultural Sciences and Behavioral and Social Sciences were represented. Following each presentation, jurists and members of the audience posed questions to the contestants.
Nominations for advancement were awarded to undergraduates Sarah DeForest, Heather Dye, Sara Livingston, Elizabeth Paslay, Westley Schager, and Melissa Wolf and to graduate student Rebecca O'Flaherty. Faculty mentors Cindy Daley, David Kistner, and Wes Patton attended in support of the students.
The group will travel to Cal Poly, Pomona on May 5 and 6 for the systemwide competition where cash awards will be provided to the outstanding presenter and runner-up in both the undergraduate and graduate divisions of each category represented.
