Theatre Students Receive Highest Honors at Festival
CSU, Chico students Ryan Palmer and Lissa Sherman, who recently starred in The Woolgatherer, directed by Bill Johnson, received the Best of Festival Award for a scene from the play at the American College Theatre Festival's regional competition. Twenty Theatre Art students and faculty members Mark Beal, Gail Holbrook, Bill Johnson, and Sue Pate traveled to Las Vegas for the competition held in February. Participating in the festival were 300 actors from 200 adjudicated productions in the five-state western region. From the 200 productions, twelve were invited to perform for the festival of Invitational Scenes. Awards were also given in production with eighty-two entrants in the field. Six CSU, Chico student designers (set, sound, costume) were nominated for awards, and Eric Marsh was a finalist in sound design. "This is a huge honor for our students, and many receive summer stock job offers as a result of their excellent showing in the festival," said Beal, professor of theatre design and production. -- JL
