Visiting Scholar Douglas Schemske to Speak on Flower EvolutionDouglas W. Schemske, professor of botany at the University of Washington, will present two lectures as a guest of the President's Visiting Scholar program. On Wednesday, April 26, he will speak on "Flower Evolution and the Origin of the Species," and on Thursday, April 27, the topic will be "Isolation by Distance and the Evolution of Flower Color in a Desert Wildflower: Was Wright Right?" Both lectures will be held in Ayres 106 at 7 p.m. Schemske received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois, Urbana and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Balboa, Panama. He joined the faculty at the University of Washington in 1989 and is the author of numerous articles and books. He has also held editorial positions for Evolution, Ecology, and American Naturalist. -- JL
