AchievementsPublications Jeff Livingston, History, had his biography selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who in the World, 2001, to be published in December. Charles Urbanowicz, Anthropology, had an electronic review of Unto Others: The Evolution And Psychology of Unselfish Behavior by Elliott Sober and David Sloan Wilson published in April. Frank Bayham, Anthropology, received $3,240 from the California State University Trustees Fund for investigation of possible cultural resource sites within one mile of five alternative power plant sites. Richard Rosecrance, College of Agriculture, received $12,400 from the California Pistachio Commission for research on management of nitrogen and potassium in pistachio orchards to attain optimum yields while reducing over-fertilization. Emilyn Sheffield, Recreation and Parks Management, received $5,000 from the Bureau of Land Management to prepare posters for the California Safety Roadside Rest Area Project. Paul Villegas, Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement Program, received $25,575 from the MESA Statewide Office for a MESA Bridge program and a community college enhancement program. He also received $14,653 from Hewlett-Packard to upgrade computer equipment. Greg White, Anthropology, received $24,181 from Sycamore Environmental Consultants, Inc., for archaeological investigations along the Highway 45 Colusa County Project. Karen Ann, Instructional Media Center, had her marketing poster series accepted as an exhibitor's Best Solution for GTC West 2000. The posters were developed for the Department of Health Services under a CSU, Chico Sponsored Programs contract. Ian Barnard and Aneil Rallin, English, presented a paper titled "Disrupting the Discourse of Persuasion: Zines in the Composition Classroom" at the College English Association conference on "Back to the Future: Diversity for the New Millennium" in South Carolina, in April. Randy M. Miller and Marty J. Wallace, Chemistry, presented a paper titled "Assessment of Laboratory Reform and Student Learning in Chemistry for the Applied Sciences" at the 219th American Chemical Society in San Francisco in March. Michael Critchfield, Michael Lewis, and Michael Murray, User Services, presented a paper on "Curing Ills with a Dose of Remedy" at the Association for Computing Machinery's annual Special Interest Group for University and College Computing Services conference in Denver, Colorado, in November. Byron Wolfe, Communication Design, presented "Third View: A Rephotographic Survey of the American West" at Yale University's Digital Media Center for the Arts and conducted a three-day computer multimedia design workshop for students at the center in April. He presented the same paper at the Image of the 20th Century Conference in Literature, Media, and Society in Colorado, in March.
