Chico World Music Festival
Returning for its Seventh year in Chico, the World Music Festival will feature free daytime performances from international performers on three different stages September 23 and 24. Scheduled to appear are Llan de Cubel, The Nields, Mary Jane Lamond, Joe Craven, Mumbo Gumbo, and Montcorbier. The festival will also include ethnic food and drinks, craft and artisan booths, and free musical workshops. Opening the Chico World Music Festival night performances will be Grammy award winner, singer, and songwriter Rickie Lee Jones, who will perform Friday evening. Ladysmith Black Mambazo, with their traditional South African sounds, will perform Saturday evening. They are best known for their work on Paul Simon's Graceland album and won their own Grammy for Traditional Folk music in 1987. Guitarist Christopher Parkening and baritone Jubilant Sykes will emphasize music from Brazil in their performance on Sunday evening. This concert will also feature traditional, regional folk songs from South American and Spanish composers. The festival performances in Laxson Auditorium begin at 7 pm. Chico Performances is offering a special $50 All-Festival Pass for all three evening performances, a savings of up to $16. See calendar for details.
