Johnson Directs Shakespeare
The School of the Arts and The Department of Theatre Arts present a grand-scale production of Shakespeare's classic, A Midsummer Night's Dream, October 18-21 at 7:30 pm and October 22 at 2 pm, in Harlen Adams Theatre. Directed by William Johnson, Department of Theatre Arts, "A Midsummer Night's Dream" creates a world where magic, madness, and true love meet rules, logic, and cold reason. The aristocratic characters will be dressed in stylish contemporary clothing, as were the original actors in Shakespeare's day. The actors who bring to life the magical, fairy-kingdom beings will be costumed in a fantastical mix of colorful draped fabric and body paint. The play will be staged on a series of levels built above and below the stage. A large moon emphasizes the tidal pull of romance and magic on the characters in the story. "More than anything, I would like the audience to walk out of the theatre and back into the 'real world' of jobs and deadlines with their hearts and minds more open to the possibility of magic in their lives," Johnson said.
