Homecoming 2000Homecoming and Parents Day 2000 was named a huge success by event organizers, with thousands of parents and alums on campus for a weekend of celebration and reunion. Over 1,000 ate lunch at a barbecue at Nettleton Stadium. Highlights included a luncheon for 1950 graduates and the opening of the 1950 time capsule (in the center photo Betty Greenwood Porter helps President Manuel A. Esteban remove the damp and disintegrating contents); the opening of the Circa 2000 time capsule buried in 1973 (upper left); and a dedication of two veteran's plaques. The first plaque honors students who died in World War II, and the second pays tribute to all students, faculty, staff, and alumni who have died while serving in the military. The ceremony was accompanied by a 21-gun salute. Sue Anderson, interim director of Alumni and Parent Relations, was coordinator of Homecoming and Parents Weekend. -- KM |
