Michael Perelman, Economics, had Transcending the Economy: On the Potential of Passionate Labor and the Wastes of the Market published by St. Martin's Press and The Invention of Capitalism: The Secret History of Primitive Accumulation published by Duke University Press. His The End of Economics was also published in Chinese translation.
Michele Shover, Political Science, published "John Bidwell and the Rancho Chico Indian Treaty of 1852: Seduction, Betrayal, Redemption" in the Aug. 2000 issue of Dogteam Territorial Quarterly.
Tony Waters, Sociology and Social Work, had Bureaucratizing the Good Samaritan: The Limits of International Humanitarian Relief Operations accepted for publication by Westview.
Richard Holman, Construction Management, received $98,239 from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to study erosion and water quality on the upper meadows of Deer Creek. He also received $173,961 from the California Department of Water Resources Urban Streams Program for Brickyard Creek restoration.
Annette Levi, College of Agriculture, received $33,926 from Uni.Versus CSEI Consorzio Universitario per la Formazione e l'Innovazione for an educational tour program about the fruit and vegetable processing industry and agricultural marketing in Califor- nia for Italian postgraduate agribusiness students.
Paul Maslin, Biological Sciences, and Jennifer Rotnem, College of Natural Sciences, received $6,346 from the California Department of Fish and Game to develop Kids 'n' Creeks, a riparian restoration project for students in grades 2 - 12.
Mark Stemen, Geography and Planning, received $4,680 from Butte County for a recycling education outreach program for Durham and Paradise elementary schools.
Doug Alexander, Biological Sciences, presented an invited talk on "Landscape Management and Vernal Pools" to an informational forum on the UC, Merced Lake Yosemite site at UC, Davis in June.
Michael Gillis, History, presented "Native American Forest Management Practices in the Lake Tahoe Basin" at the California Council for the Promotion of History in September.
Michael Magliari, History, presented "The State of Public History Education in California" and chaired a panel on "The History of Logging in the Lake Tahoe Basin" at the California Council for the Promotion of History in September.
Miriam Monges, Sociology and Social Work, presented "African Americans and Spirituality" at a conference on "Integrating Culture and Complementary Medicine: Challenges to the Biomedical Paradigm" at the Association for the Behavioral Sciences and Medical Education conference in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in October. She is also included in the Millennium Edition of Who's Who of American Women.
Joyce L. Norman, Psychology, gave a poster presentation on "Vagal Tone and Shyness in College Women" at the Western Psychological Association in Portland, Oregon, in April.
Keith Sheldon, Journalism, received the 2000 Communication Achievement Award from the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce.
