Sigma Xi Inducts Scott NcNallSigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society, has inducted several new members this year. One of the inductees is Scott G. McNall, provost and vice president of Academic Affairs. Other new members this year include Ann Bykerk-Kauffman, Zachary Heath, Sara Livingston, and Westley Schager. Sigma Xi is the international honor society for scientists and engineers numbering 90,000 members. Throughout its history, over 170 members have received the Nobel Prize. "Locally, we promote opportunities for integration of research and teaching, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the interests of faculty researchers with the CSU, Chico administration," said Lee Altier, chapter president. The by-invitation-only honor society is open to students as associate members as well as faculty as full members. McNall was a member when he was a student at Portland State University. "I've come full circle. I'm pleased to be a member of this prestigious group again," he said. Sigma Xi will sponsor a two-day visit on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 (see calendar for details) of Kevin Padian, professor of integrative biology at UC Berkeley. -- KM
