Dr. Glenn Kendall is Special Guest at Retired Faculty Meeting
Dr. Glenn Kendall, former president of the university, visited the lunch meeting of the retired Faculty Association on Friday, October 20. Kendall, 99 years old, is known for his gifts of storytelling and humor. He shared anecdotes about the early years of his presidency and talked about the benefits of getting his introductory training as a teacher in a one-room school. More than a half-dozen of those present had served under Kendall during his tenure, 1950-1966. Jim Gregg, professor emeritus, Political Science, ribbed Kendall good naturedly about his Kentucky accent and his oft-used phrase "service a-rea." Kendall loves a good laugh, even at himself. He told about the time as a very new president that he met faculty member Benjamin Franklin in the administration building. Franklin introduced himself. "And I'm George Washington," Kendall quipped. The next Retired Faculty Association Meeting will be held on Friday, November 17 in Kendall 103. President Manuel A. Esteban will be the guest speaker. -- KM
