Lawrence Bryant, History, authored the chapter "'What Face to Put On?' Splendid Extravagances, Royal Authority, and Louis XI's Ceremonies" in Word, Image, Number: Communication in the Middle Ages, published by Micrologus Library.

Weikun Cheng, History, published "Going Public through Education: Female Reformers and Girls' Schools in Late Qing Beijing" in Late Imperial China, Vol. 21, No. 1, June 2000.

Michael Magliari, History, published a review of Cooperative Commonwealth: Co-ops in Rural Minnesota, 1859 - 1939 by Steven Keillor in the fall 2000 issue of the Michigan Historical Review.

Ben Martz, Accounting and Management Information Systems, Jack McKenna, Management, and Marc Siegall, College of Business, had "Applying a Standard Performance Model to a University Setting" accepted for publication by the Business Process Management Journal.

Charles M. Price, Political Science, published "Direct Democracy Under Siege" in the October 2000 issue of State Government News.

Dan Toy and Lauren Wright, Finance and Marketing, had "The Role of Deception and Debriefing in Consumer Research" accepted for publication in the Journal of Psychology and Marketing.

Dennis Schlais and Richard Davis, Finance and Marketing, coauthored the chapter "Distance Learning through Educational Networks: The Global View Experience" in Teaching and Learning Online: Pedagogies for New Technologies, published by Kogan Page.

George Troughton, Finance and Marketing, published "Mutual Fund Tax Efficiency -- Does it Matter?" in Proceedings of the 14th annual meeting of the Academy of Financial Services in October.


Grants and Contracts

Victoria Bernhardt, Professional Studies in Education, received $35,000 from Mabton Public Schools for consulting services at the district, school, and classroom levels, and she received $19,700 from the Northshore School District to conduct school portfolio workshops.

Faye Johnson, Biological Sciences, received $5,000 from the Northern California Breast Cancer Partnership to educate senior women about healthy lifestyles that decrease breast cancer risk.

Jack Ladwig, Mathematics and Statistics, received $37,247 from the University of California Office of the President to provide five levels of mathematics diagnostic readiness testing for California schools grades 6 - 12.

Chuck Nelson, Geographical Information Center, received $35,000 from the Butte County Association of Governments to maintain files current with the Butte County assessor's parcel files.

Larry Schmunk, Instructional Media Center, received $3,840 from the California Department of Motor Vehicles to provide the DMV with computer-generated graphics for a video titled Sharing the Road.


Awards and Activities

Bruce Bechtol, Geography and Planning, received a National Outstanding Adviser award at the National Academic Advising Association conference in Orlando, Florida, in October.

Janet Brown, School of Nursing, presented the poster "Patient Experience and Preference with Intradermal Lidocaine for Peripheral IV Insertion" at the 19th scientific meeting of the American Pain Society in Atlanta, Georgia.

Cheuk-Kin Chau, Physics, presented "Pop Gun: A Study of the Ideal Gas Law" at the meeting of the Northern California/Nevada American Association of Physics Teachers in November.

Charlotte Ekland, School of Graduate, International, and Sponsored Programs, presented "Elena Poniatowska on the Margin: Prologues, Presentations, and Essays in Mexican Photography Books" at an international conference on literature and the arts at Brock University, St. Catherines, Canada, in October.

Lisa Emmerich, History, presented "Always Bet on Red: California Indian Gaming, Public Policy, and the Creation of Moral Wealth" at the Western History Association conference in October.

Paul A. Feldhaus, professor emeritus, Art and Art History, exhibited linocuts "Confrontation in the Desert" at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art's The Print and the Process show in St. Joseph, Missouri, and "Guess Who Gets the Last Piece of Cake?" at the American Print Survey at Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas.

Chris Gaffney, Physics, presented "When Does a Trapped Air Bubble Act Like a Massless/Incompressible Fluid?" at the meeting of the Northern California/Nevada American Association of Physics Teachers in November.

James Karman, English, presented "Rock and Hawk: The Letters of Robinson and Una Jeffers" at the annual conference of the Association for Documentary Editing in Oakland in October.

Carole Oles, English, received a Visiting Artist/Scholar residency at the American Academy in Rome for 2001.

Greg White, Anthropology, presented "A New Cultural Sequence for the Colusa Basin" at the northern data-sharing meeting of the Society for California Archaeology in San Francisco in November.
