CED 2001 Economic Profiles AvailableDan Ripke, director of the Center for Economic Development (CED), introduced the 2001 Economic and Demographic Profile Series and the staff responsible for it at a news conference on January 24. CED was founded in 1986 as an outreach program to 20 counties in Northern California. It is supported with funding from the U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration, with matching funds from CSU, Chico. Some funding is provided with fee-for-service projects, and the profile series is one of those. The center first offered the economic profiles in 1990 as a one-page report. The profile series has grown to over 2,500 pages and is 66 percent self-supporting. The 2001 series, a tool for local decision makers, includes more categories of information than ever. Community health, welfare, and environment have been added to the population, labor market, income, and business and industry sections of previous profiles. The $30 profiles are available from CED.
