Third Early Music Series ConcertCSU, Chico's School of the Arts will present the third installment of the 2000-2001 Early Music Series, "Sacred and Secular Music of the Middle Ages and Renaissance," on Sunday, February 25, beginning at 3 p.m. in Harlen Adams Theatre. The ensemble will play several musical instruments rarely seen or heard in the North Valley, including crumhorns, shawms, sackbuts, viol da gamba, and a regal, said concert coordinator David Rothe. The concert will demonstrate the tremendous variety to be found in early music: plainsong, organum, dances, motets, madrigals, and airs. Performers include Department of Music faculty members Heidi Pintner (early flute and recorder), Russell Burnham (bass recorder and crumhorn), Lloyd Roby (sackbut and percussion), Warren Haskell (guitar), Jeffrey Gemmell (baritone), Daun Hayes (soprano), and Rothe (recorder, crumhorn, sackbut, organ, and regal); Department of Music chair James Bankhead (crumhorn and shawm); community members Susie Lundberg (alto recorder, crumhorn, and shawm) and Amilie Hilsee (vielle and viol da gamba); and CSU, Chico's Chamber Singers, the Department of Music's most select choral ensemble. See calendar for ticket information. |
