William Post, currently the university's chief technology officer, will assume the role of interim vice provost for Information Resources effective May 1. He replaces Fred Ryan, who will be retiring.

Information Resources encompasses the Meriam Library, Computing Services, Student Computing and User Services, Communications Services, and Academic Technologies, including the Instructional Media Center and the Technology and Learning Program.

Post sees the coming year as an exciting time for Information Resources. "Using leading-edge technologies, we will successfully complete the transition of our distance learning program to the Internet, and we will implement a Web portal system that will provide an array of new and exciting services for the students, faculty, and staff," he said.

Post looks forward to the challenges of the Common Management System, which has the potential to improve administration and teaching support, and the network infrastructure project, which will provide improved and more reliable connectivity to the campus community, he noted.

Post brings 23 years of experience in library and computing experience to the vice provost position, as well as graduate degrees in computer science and library science. "President Esteban and I have full confidence in Bill's ability to manage one of the most complex and important units on campus," said Provost Scott McNall.

Post will begin his new duties from Meriam Library 338 on April 1, when Ryan leaves for vacation prior to his actual retirement. This summer Ryan and his wife, Sally, will move to the Ukraine to teach at a university for a few years. A search will be conducted for Ryan's permanent replacement beginning in the fall of 2001.
