Music, Dance, and Fun-Filled Follies
CSU, Chico's Department of Theatre Arts' 2001 spring musical, The Will Rogers Follies, will be presented May 2-5 at 7:30 pm and May 6 at 2 pm in Laxson Auditorium. The Will Rogers Follies is the spring musical extravaganza. Traditionally held in Laxson, the spring musical includes more than 30 adults, four children, and several dogs in the cast, and nearly 20 people in the orchestra. "When you combine that with the number of folks backstage -- roughly 15 -- that puts the total at nearly 70. It's a feat just to get them all in the same room at the same time!" said director Joel Rogers. Rogers is new this year as head of the Musical Theatre Program, and The Will Rogers Follies is the first show he has directed locally. He brings a wealth of experience to the program and this show: he is an accomplished vocalist and keyboardist; he has directed more than two dozen productions and been musical director in more than three dozen; and he has acted in more than three dozen. He came to Chico from Bethel College in McKenzie, Tennessee. The Will Rogers Follies was written by Peter Stone and premiered on Broadway in 1991. It was honored with Best Musical and five other top awards at the Tony Awards. |
