Dolly Moore-Solomon, a member of the campus community for more than 25 years, received CSU, Chico's Outstanding Staff Employee of the Year 2000 award at the Staff Awards Luncheon held on April 26.

She is described by various colleagues in their letters of support for the award as "loyal, kind, warm, approachable, helpful, and benevolent"; "business-like, yet personable"; "someone who goes the extra mile"; "someone who puts 100 percent into everything!"

Moore-Solomon began her service to the university working at the public contact windows for Cashiering. Currently, she works with Student Records and Registration, where she has helped upgrade cashiering services.

She has been active in the Staff Council and in the California State Employees Association since 1983. At the Kick-Off Reception for the Faculty-Staff Campaign in October 2000, Moore-Solomon was honored for her contributions to campus scholarships.

Moore-Solomon gives as much to the community as she has to CSU, Chico. For 25 years, she has been part of Essence Women, a group of African American women whose focus is dealing with African American issues. She has helped Essence organize yearly fashion shows, marches to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and fund-raisers that help minority students.

Moore-Solomon has served on the board of the Community Housing Improvement Program for more than 10 years and is an active member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church. A superb and generous cook, she often helps cater special events such as Black Commencement. She has spoken at Nutrition and Food Science cultural foods classes on "The Art of Soul Food." Her soul food preparations are legendary at the university.

As he presented her the award, President Esteban praised Moore-Solomon for her dedication to students, to her fellow workers, and to the university.
