Editor’s Note: Due to a personal emergency, an incorrect version of Inside Chico State, August 27, 2001, was printed. There were errors and omissions, including an incomplete caption for the picture accompanying the “Summer Youth Camps Flourish” story, and the lack of correct attribution for the picture of Ted Meriam on page 3.

The missing caption is below. The picture of Ted Meriam was taken by Ty Barbour, photographer for the Chico Enterprise-Record, and loaned to us courtesy of the paper. There also was not room for a sidebar listing the full array of sports camps provided at CSU, Chico.

Full Line-Up of Youth Sports Camps
Abilities First
Abilities First Sports Camp is for children with physical disabilities. The camp, in its 15th year of operation, is sponsored by the therapeutic recreation and adapted physical education departments. This week-long camp is co-directed by Laura MacLachlin, recreation administration instructor. Chico State students are camp counselors; coaches are athletes with disabilities. Approximately 50 children attended this summer and participated in wheelchair sports, including tennis and waterskiing.

Climb On!
The physical education department offers seven sessions of “Climb On,” a one-week climbing wall day camp for children, as well as four camps for older children that include overnight trips. Using the campus climbing wall, Chico State students with climbing experience teach campers climbing safety, commands, how to use equipment, and how to belay themselves. More than 125 campers attended.

More Sports
Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreational Sports offers baseball, softball, and volleyball camps, where Chico State students and athletes act as leaders and coaches. About 275 local boys and girls participated this summer.
