Wendy Diamond and Barbara Pease, Library Reference, had “Digital Reference: A Case Study of Question Types in an Academic Library” published in Reference Services Review, Vol. 29, No. 3, Sept. 2001.

Susan Gardner and James Morgan, Management, had their presentation “Hobson’s Choice: Employee Seniority Rights or Reasonable Accommodation under the Americans with Disabilities Act” published in the Proceedings of the Hawaii Conference on Business in June.

Mike Graf, Education, authored 10 books to be released in winter 2002 by Capstone Press. Continents of the World Series includes Asia, Europe, South America, and Africa; National Parks of the United States Series includes Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Rocky Mountain, Olympic, and Great Smoky Mountains.

Janja Lalich, Sociology, had “Pitfalls in the Sociological Study of Cults” published in Misunderstanding Cults: Why the “Experts” Never Seem to Agree by the University of Toronto Press in 2001.

Cristina Sanicky, Foreign Languages and Literatures, had “El Comportamiento de /r/ Final en el Habla Dialectal de Misiones, Argentina” published in the April issue of the Bulletin of Hispanic Studies.

Grants and Contracts

Greg White, Anthropology, received $43,924 from the California Department of Transportation District 3 to complete field and laboratory cultural resource studies for the proposed Highway 70 Marysville-Oroville bypass and $15,000 from the California Department of Forestry to provide professional cultural resource services on timber harvest plans.

Awards and Activities

Matt Bumpus, Child Development Program, presented “Mechanisms Linking Work-to-Family Spillover and Parents’ Knowledge of Their Children’s Daily Lives” at the biennial meeting of the Society for Research in Child Development in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in April.

Wendy Diamond, Library Reference, presented “Consumers into Customers: Commercial Sources of Demographic Information” at the American Library Association conference in San Francisco in June.

Melissa Groves, Child Development Program, co-presented a poster on “Transitional Object Use in Children of Attachment Parents” at the Society for Research in Child Development in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in April.

Mina Hector, Chemistry, is the associate director of education for the California State University Program for Education and Research in Biotechnology.

William Korte, Chemistry, received funding from the U.S. Army for his research project “Analysis of Toxic Agents Bound to Proteins.”

Sandra Machida, Child Development Program, presented a poster on “Parent-Peer Connections: Parenting Practices and Peer Play Among Head Start Children” at the biennial meeting of the Society for Research in Child Development in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in April.

Rick Sheridan, Health and Community Services, won the Orchid Award for Page Excellence on June 1 and the Excellent Page Award of the Harmony Group on August 20 for the Web page he designed for Health and Community Services 60, Computer Applications in Health Education, at www.csuchico.edu/~csu/course/intro.html.
