Prominent Historian Gives Inaugural Joanna Dunlap Cowden Memorial Lecture
Historian Bertram Wyatt-Brown will present The Last Famous Duel in South Carolina, 1880 at 7 pm on Thursday, Oct. 25 in Harlen Adams Theatre. Wyatt-Brown is the Richard J. Milbauer Professor of History at the University of Florida and has published extensively. Cowden taught antebellum and Civil War U.S. history from 1973 to 1999. Her book, Heaven Will Frown on Such as This: Six Democrats Who Opposed Lincolns War, was published shortly before her death on April 19, 2001. The lecture is free and open to the public.
