Ford Honored Internationally

John Franz and Bev Ford

John Franz, CSU, Fresno, presents his friend and colleague, Bev Ford, an award for her standard-setting accomplishments.

Bev Ford, director of Faculty and Staff Assistance, received one of the top honors in the field of employee assistance at an international conference held in British Columbia in October.

Ford received the Special Service Award for Outstanding Professionalism and Accomplishments in the Field of EAPs in Education by the International Association of Employee Assistance Professionals in Education.

“The award was in recognition of her years of service above and beyond the call of duty as our conference registrar, her many professional contributions as a workshop presenter, mentor to new EAP professionals, a consultant to her EAP-in-Higher-Ed colleagues, and a contributor of information to the profession via articles, manuals, and promotional materials,” said John Franz, a colleague at Fresno State.

Ford was also acknowledged as an original co-sponsor of the California Network of EAPs in Education, an informal association that has provided professional support to relatively isolated EAP directors in California.

“I have served as the EAP director at Fresno State for the same length of time that Bev has been director of Chico’s Faculty/Staff Assistance Program, so I am very well aware of the quality and consistency of her contributions to her profession. Bev’s work in developing a supervisor training/credential program on CSU, Chico’s campus is astandard-setting accomplishment in the CSU system,” said Franz.

Jim Haehn, former dean of behavioral and social sciences, and supporter of Ford’s concept for an EAP program, said, ”Bev was the driving force behind establishing an EAP assistance program on campus. She has been continually generous with her time. She worked for several years helping small businesses establish EAPs. You put her achievement in the field, her contributions to the is campus, and her service to her profession together with her educational accomplishments during this time (an M.A. and a Ph.D.), and you have an impressive set of achievements!”

“I’m very proud of this service award. One of the things I’m most proud of is the student interns we’ve had over the 18 years I’ve served as director. The students were instrumental in working with me in all of the projects I’ve been involved in. The program provided a true ‘student-centered learning environment,’ and now those students are doing wonderful things in their careers and in communities nationwide,” said Ford.

Debra Barger, dean of regional and continuing education, said, “It’s been a delight to work with Beverly Ford over the past decade. Not only did we collaborate on grant proposals leading to the creation of Chico’s first Community Employee Assistance Program, we also successfully partnered on a federally funded teleconference series delivered nationally for EAPs. Given her dedication to the Chico campus and community, the international recognition from her peers is well deserved.”
