Ken Chapman, Finance and Marketing, co-authored “The 2000 e-Campaign for the U.S. Senate,” accepted for publication in a forthcoming issue of the Journal of Political Marketing.
Weikun Cheng, History, had “Creating a New Nation, Creating New Women: Women’s Journalism and the Building of Nationalist Womanhood During the Period of 1911 Revolution” published in An Examination of Chinese Nationalism from the Past to the Present by Greenwood Publishing in 2001.
Lynn Elliott, English, had his memoir, The Great White Whale Meets the Black-Leathered Fleshless Beast: A True Story from 1968, published in the December 2001 issue of the UC Santa Barbara Department of English Newsletter.
Philip Gash, Physics, had “So You Thought a Glass Thermometer Measured Temperature” published in The Physics Teacher, Vol. 40, Feb. 2002.
Bruce Grelle, Religious Studies, and Devon Metzger, Education, had “Finding Common Ground: Citizenship Education in a Pluralistic Democracy” accepted for publication in the spring 2002 American Secondary Education.
Christine Hsu, Finance and Marketing, had “Earnings Surprises and Stock Returns: Some Evidence from Asia/Pacific and Europe” published in the refereed Business Quest 2001, http://www.westga.edu/~bquest/2001/research1.htm.
Grants and Contracts
The Center for Regional and Continuing Education, in collaboration with the Colleges of Business and Agriculture and the Center for Economic Development, received a $100,000 rural e-commerce grant from the California State Technology, Trade, and Commerce Agency to build an e-commerce training and support network targeting small businesses in Northern California.
Tom Ferrara, Civil Engineering, received $101,695 from Caltrans to identify, summarize, and study standards for crash attenuators, crash cushions, and rail treatments, and to create a database in electronic format.
John Roussell, Communication Design, received $30,000 from the Superior Branch American Lung Association to create a smoking cessation campaign for people 18 to 24 years old.
Awards and Activities
Jo Ann Bradley, Meriam Library Interlibrary Loan, received the CSU Council of Library Directors Staff Recognition Award for 2001/2002 for her service on the Pharos Resource Sharing System Task Force.
Tricia Daniels, Center for Regional and Continuing Education, received The Best Use of Theme award for the Summer Session 2001 catalog design and associated marketing materials from The Western Association of Summer School Administrators.
Janja Lalich, Sociology, received the $1,000 Elizabeth Douvan Postdoctoral Award from the Fielding Graduate Institute, Santa Barbara, California.
Graham Thurgood, Frank Li, and Saundra Wright, English, delivered papers at the Jan. 2002 meeting of the Linguistics Society of America in San Francisco. Thurgood and Li presented “Word Order Change and Language Contact: The Data from Tsat,” and Wright presented “Elvis & Priscilla: The Phonological Conspiracy Deepens.”
