Student Researchers Advance to CSU Competition The Sixteenth Annual CSU, Chico Student Research Competition was held on Thursday, Feb. 21. The categories of Biological and Agricultural Sciences, Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Education, and Health, Nutrition, and Clinical Sciences were represented. Students were given 10 minutes to present an oral summary of their research. Following each presentation, jurists and members of the audience had an opportunity to pose questions to the contestants. Nominees for advancement to the systemwide competition are undergraduates Allison Adams, Stacey DePaul, Logan Smith, Caroline Henke, and Isaiah Lankham; and graduate candidates are Stephen Karr, Laura Jones, Robert Cunningham, and Launa Hodgson. Faculty mentors are Cindy Daley, Wes Patton, Thomas Mattman, James Pushnik, Traci Ciapponi-Frazier, and Jack Azevedo. The group will travel to California State University, Long Beach on May 3 and 4 for the systemwide competition, where cash awards will be given to the outstanding presenter and runner-up in both the undergraduate and graduate divisions of each category. Robert M. Jackson, dean of the School of Graduate and International Programs, hosted the event. Respected jurors included Byron Jackson, vice provost for Academic Affairs and dean of Undergraduate Programs; A. Charles Crabb, dean of the College of Agriculture; Jeffrey R. Bell, Biological Sciences; and Kate Transchel, History. |
