Third Wave Leader to Speak at Women’s Conference Author Rebecca Walker will speak Friday, April 5, at 8 pm in the Bell Memorial Union auditorium. One of the most audible young voices in today’s women’s movement, Walker was named by Time magazine as one of the 50 future leaders of America. As a writer, speaker, and actress, Walker explores young women’s struggles to reclaim and redefine feminism. Walker is the author of Black, White and Jewish: Autobiography of a Shifting Self, a memoir (Riverhead Books, 2001). After graduating from Yale in 1992, Walker founded Third Wave Direct Action Corporation, a national nonprofit organization devoted to cultivating young women’s leadership and activism. In 1998, she co-founded Third Wave Foundation, the only national activist philanthropic organization for women between the ages of 15 and 30. She is also a contributing editor to Ms. magazine and the editor of To Be Real: Telling the Truth and Changing the Face of Feminism (Anchor Books, 1995). Walker’s lecture is part of the Associated Students’
Women’s Center and Women’s Studies Program’s Fourth Annual Feminist Conference
April 5 and 6. Deadline for conference registration is April 1. If received
(or postmarked) on or before March 18, conference fee will include a ticket
to Walker’s lecture. Contact Libby Marks, conference coordinator, at x5724
