Ag Does a Body Good

The huge Holsteins were their usual docile, patient selves, tolerant of the giggling schoolchildren tugging at their udders. On Thursday, March 14, Students for Responsible Agriculture (SRA) hosted its 10th annual Ag Day celebration. About 500 local schoolchildren planted radish seeds in mini pots, listened to a calf’s heartbeat, and marveled at stock dogs herding ducks.

Many children gave cow milking a try, as well as the cowboy art of roping. The children noshed on pistachios, olives, cheese, and other California agriculture products as they made their way through the information booths and educational activities. SRA organizes the event each spring to educate children about agriculture and its importance in our lives.
