Big Dig

Employees of the Ryan Company, at right, are placing one of three, soon-to-be-underground, utility vaults in the “Big Dig.” Similar vaults will be installed in seven other locations. Once they are interconnected by pipes, this underground system of vaults and duct banks will house wiring for telecommunications and campus power distribution.

The project extends from the boiler chiller plant (adjacent to the large water tower) north to the new soccer stadium and will result in nearly 2,200 feet of new duct banks. The project will bring utility services to the new Yolo building, extend chilled water piping and cooling to the Acker Gym complex, increase electrical capacity to playing fields, and extend telecommunications to the northwestern sections of the campus.
