Summer Arts 2002: Students will draw and paint in Florence Amanda Riner and Carl “Klutch” Stanaway (above), art students at CSU, Chico, have just been chosen for the CSU two-week intensive-study program in Florence this summer. It’s a particular honor for CSU, Chico to receive two out of the 22 available slots. Stanaway and Riner, well-known seniors in the studios of Ayres Hall, were nominated by Vernon Patrick, chair of the Department of Art and Art History. Brooks Thorlaksson, associate dean of the College of Humanities and Fine Arts, helped the students with their applications and funding sources. Riner, a graduate of Paradise High School, is primarily a print maker. She will have a one-woman show at the Humanities Center Gallery June 427, be the Humanities Center Gallery assistant next fall, and graduate with a B.F.A. in December 2002. Stanaway, a graduate of Strathmore Union High School in Strathmore, California, is primarily a sculptor. He has had two one-man shows at the Humanities Center Gallery and has been the Humanities Center Gallery assistant this academic year. He will receive a B.F.A. in May and attend graduate school in the East next fall. |
