Staff and Faculty as Artists
This year’s Staff and Faculty Art Exhibition features 33 artists and more than 50 pieces of artwork, including watercolors, oils, digital images, photography, and blown glass. Chris Ficken, creative services supervisor for the Instructional Media Center/Academic Technologies, has three digital oil paintings in the show, including the one pictured above, as well as Corey and Tanya, and an untitled piece featuring tree roots. Ficken creates the paintings in Painter 6, prints in small editions, and then hand paints the textures with a clear oil gel for protection. “I do the digital work now because, with the little time I have, I can create one of these in a quarter of the time a painting takes, and I can scale the different editions if I like,” Ficken said. This annual, nonjuried exhibition is open to all staff and faculty at CSU, Chico. Staff Council coordinates the show. The exhibition is on display on the first floor of Kendall Hall through May 23.
