Field Trip Series Wins Mayor's Arts Award

The City of Chico Arts Commission presented the "Mayor's Arts Award" to Chico Performances/University Public Events for their Field Trip Series Oct. 1 in a ceremony at the Council Chamber Building.

According to a press release by the City of Chico, "The Field Trip Series produced by Chico Performances is being recognized for providing local children with the opportunity to enrich their lives through the performing arts."

This year's Field Trip Series offers 27 performances from September through May. The artists featured in these condensed, 50-minute daytime performances are the same artists who perform in the evening programs at Laxson Auditorium.

"This year, we will see more than 27,000 children go through the doors at Laxson, all because of the Field Trip Series," said Dan DeWayne, director of Chico Performances/University Public Events. "For many of these children, one of our field trips is their first experience with live performance. I am delighted that such a worthwhile program is receiving recognition."

The Mayor's Arts Award, presented annually by the City of Chico during National Arts and Humanities Month, was created to recognize individuals, businesses, and nonprofit organizations for their contributions to the arts in the community. The awards are given in memory of former arts commissioner Joe Kaveney in recognition of his many years of contributions to the arts in Chico.
