Women's Wellness Day Features Latest Research

A Women's Wellness Conference, presented by the School of Nursing and the A.S. Women's Center, will be held throughout the day on Thursday, Nov. 14, in the Bell Memorial Union auditorium.

Members of the community are invited to join university students, faculty, and staff, free of charge, in an event that will present nationally known health professionals, many of them primary researchers, on women's health issues.

The keynote speaker for the conference is Jennifer O'Dea, M.P.H. and Ph.D., from the University of Sydney, Australia. She is currently a visiting scholar at University of California, Berkeley. O'Dea's expertise is preventing and treating eating disorders.

Participants do not need to preregister for the conference and can come to whichever events fit into their schedules.

CSU, Chico will host a week-long residency of Pulitzer Prize-winning composer George Crumb, which will culminate in a free concert, The Music of George Crumb, Friday, Nov. 22, at 7:30 pm in the Rowland- Taylor Recital Hall.

Crumb won the Pulitzer Prize in 1968 for his composition Echoes of Time and the River. He also received the 1971 International Rostrum of Composers (UNESCO) Award and the Fromm, Guggenheim, Koussevitsky, and Rockefeller Foundation Awards. He was the 36th recipient of the MacDowell medal in 1995 for extraordinary contributions to the nation's culture.

"George Crumb has made a deep and profound mark on American culture," said David Colson, Music. "He is important, not only as a pioneer, but as someone who has established himself as a benchmark for classical music composition in modern times."

During his residency, Crumb will perform, talk about his music, and address questions from students. His visit is presented by the School of the Arts and the Department of Music.
