Eddie Bankston Shipping Out

Eddie Bankston, director of University Housing and Food Service, has taken a position at UC Berkeley as executive director of Housing and Dining Services. Bankston, who started his career at CSU, Chico 24 years ago, led the troops in UHFS for 11 years; he was associate director for several years and worked in Student Activities prior to that. "I've had the good fortune to make some very dear friends here who I will miss a great deal," Bankston said, adding that the professional opportunity at Berkeley was one he just couldn't pass up. "To end my housing career at such a world-renowned institution would be pretty special," he said. Bankston's last day on the job is Dec. 13. John Lauer has been appointed interim director. Lauer has been associate director of UHFS since 1998; he started working for the department in 1988 as a hall director. "Eddie leaves behind a legacy of caring and compassionate leadership," Lauer said of his longtime mentor.

The Greening of CSU, Chico

Can you picture a "living machine" that uses plants to transform dirty water into clean water? The newly formed Green Campus Work Group discussed the machine and other projects, such as a model green building, at their first meeting. Campus Green meets every other week at noon in the open area at Selvester's Café; the next meeting will be Friday, Dec. 20. Faculty, staff, and students are welcome. Call Laurie Wermuth, sociology, x5691, for more information.

A Life-Saving Holiday Gift

Blood is in greater demand during the holidays, yet fewer people take the time to give. Consider donating blood this holiday season as part of your charitable giving. It's simple, entails no shopping, and won't cost you a dime. On campus, the Department of Health and Community Services and the residence halls have formed a blood drive partnership. Two hundred and sixty donors gave blood at the first two drives. That's great inspiration for the rest of us to make a valuable contribution to our community, especially during the holidays.
