Bach: Lost and Found

Christoph Wolff

Christoph Wolff

The man who rediscovered a collection of original 18th- and 19th-century music, including works from the Bach family, will visit CSU, Chico March 6–8 during the Bach Festival. Christoph Wolff, world-renowned music scholar and professor at Harvard University, will lecture several times during his visit. Wolff’s public talk, “J. S. Bach: Lost in Berlin, Found in Kiev,” will describe his search for the long lost Berlin Singakademie collection.

The Bach Festival Concert on March 8 will feature the West Coast premiere of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach’s “St. Matthew Passion” (1789), a piece from Berlin Singakademie. The concert features performances by the University Choral Ensembles, directed by Jeff Gemmell; the Chico Early Music Ensemble, directed by David Rothe; and university music faculty. Wolff will give a brief preconcert lecture. See the calendar for a schedule of Wolff’s other lectures.
